State University of Mato Grosso do Sul - Brazil
I was the instructor of all these courses in the Geography department on the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul - Campo Grande campuses. I was responsible for preparing the syllabus, teaching, grading, and advising students throughout the courses by providing office hours. The courses were taught in Brazilian Portuguese. Because of COVID-19, those courses were mainly taught online with regular classes.
Economic Geography (Spring 2020)
Description: This course examined the historical processes of city formation and the spatial distribution of economic activities. It explored key factors such as migration, urbanization, and regional development, analyzing how these forces shape economic geography and influence patterns of growth and trade.
History of Economic Thought (Spring 2020)
Description: This course traced the evolution of economic theories, from classical and neoclassical frameworks to modern economic thought. It focused on the contributions of key economists and their impact on contemporary economic policies and practices.
Quantitative Methods (Fall 2020)
Description: Provided an introduction to the mathematical foundations of economics, focusing on principles of calculus, including limits, derivatives, and integrals, as well as essential concepts in linear algebra. The course emphasized applications of these tools to solve economic problems.
Spatial Economics (Fall 2020)
Description: Explored the role of geography in shaping economic outcomes, including regional development, spatial competition, and urban-rural dynamics. The course integrated GeoDa, an open-source tool, to teach spatial data analysis and visualization, helping students apply theoretical concepts to real-world spatial problems.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation (Fall 2020)
Description: Focused on the principles of entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on start-up creation and innovation strategies. The course covered business planning, market analysis, and creative problem-solving, equipping students with the skills to launch and manage new ventures successfully.
Project Management (Fall 2020)
Description: Introduced the fundamentals of project planning and execution, emphasizing project writing, proposal development, and resource allocation. Students also learned to use tools like Gantt charts and project management software to streamline processes and improve decision-making.
Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul - Brazil
The Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul is the biggest university of the state with about 29,164 students among undergraduates and graduates. I’ve taught in the Campo Grande campuses in the School of Management and Business in the courses of Economics and Business, but I’ve also serve to a double appointment teaching Principles of Economics and Business to other departments like Computer Engineering and Chemistry, which gave me experience teaching to broader fields audiences.
Principles of Economics (Spring/Fall 2019)
Description: Delivered a comprehensive overview of both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles. The course emphasized foundational concepts such as supply and demand, market structures, fiscal policy, and economic growth, with a focus on their real-world applications.
Introduction to Business (Spring/Fall 2019)
Description: Offered a foundational understanding of business operations, including management, marketing, finance, and organizational behavior. The course also explored the role of business in society and introduced students to core business strategies and practices.
Brazilian Economy (Fall 2019) Description: Analyzed the historical and contemporary aspects of Brazil’s economic development, focusing on key topics such as industrialization, inflation, trade policies, and income distribution. The course also examined challenges and opportunities within Brazil’s economic structure, emphasizing the impact of public policies and global economic trends.
Principles of Macroeconomics (Spring 2019) Description: Introduced fundamental concepts in macroeconomics, including GDP, inflation, unemployment, and fiscal and monetary policy. The course emphasized the role of government and international trade in shaping economic growth and stability, providing students with tools to analyze macroeconomic indicators and policy implications.
